King claims to have been tongue-tied when speaking to her. “One of the most painful experiences I have ever faced was to see her tears when I told her Funtown was closed to colored children, for I realized the first dark cloud of inferiority had floated into her little mental sky.”

Just something to contemplate on this MLK Day weekend.

His daughter seems so contemplative in that picture.

This white dude is crying because he just received a one-year sentence for a hate crime in which he and maybe a dozen other white dudes beat up a black teenager with fists, feet, knives and beer bottles, even after the teen was unconscious. The highest sentence dealt for this crime was three years. The assistant attorney had recommended eight years.

Sorry to frighten the fuck out of my new followers.

This is love.

I was dying, due to pc pneumonia and acute respiratory failure/distress. I lost over 150lbs, one of my lungs collapsed and will never re-inflate, I had chest tubes, multiple IV’s, I was on a ventilator, had a tracheostomy, had to re-learn how to walk, talk, eat and breathe on my own.

My husband, was there for me EVERY. FUCKING. DAY. The amazing doctors and nurses at KU Medical Center ALL commented on how amazingly dedicated my husband was. How few husbands show such tenderness and love. I would have died, had he not been there to keep me going.

I have a man who wiped my ass for me because I messed myself in my hospital bed. Who held me, calmed me down and cared for me while I was delirious and had no idea where I was or what was going on. Who put up with my delirium induced anger and confused lashing out. I have a man who exhausted himself, between work, school, taking care of our home and animals and taking care of me, all full time.

Now, tell me that we are going to ruin the sanctity of marriage and I will bust your fucking teeth out.

As the holidays start to roll around, it’s not uncommon to see a Salvation Army representative in front of a major store ringing a bell next to a big red donation bucket. But should you donate? Some LGBT advocacy groups say no.

These groups say the Salvation Army has a history of discriminating against LGBT people, a claim that could be true in theory, but is hard to confirm in practice. The Salvation Army does operate on the basis of religious beliefs that include a condemnation of homosexuality, but the group donates to the needy and says they don’t ask for sexual orientation in deciding who benefits.

But some activists say this isn’t the full story. The Salvation Army’s position statement on homosexuality, available at the link above, says it believes gay people should embrace celibacy and the organization doesn’t support same-sex unions. Some say the organization has denied LGBT people services unless they ended their relationships, but the Salvation Army denies this claim.

The MSNBC article above has more details on the issue, but nothing fully convinces me one way or the other. This is a tricky issue, especially because the Salvation Army does help tons and tons of people, a contribution that can’t be ignored. What do you think?
